DC Young Fly was raised in the high-crime neighborhood of Adamsville in west Atlanta and has been involved in various drug-related activities since 13. His alias is an abbreviation for the name ‘Da Crew,’ which he and his closest friends used to call themselves when they were younger. His parents divorced when he was 14 years old in 2006. He went to Benjamin E. Mays High School in Atlanta, and while his teachers thought he was a class clown, he was famous and respected among his peers, especially for his comedic antics. Unfortunately, DC experienced two family tragedies at a young age: his brother was murdered in 2011, and his father died two years after suffering from Alzheimer’s disease for several years. To honor his brother, D.C. got the famous tattoo on his forehead and began his career as a rapper after his brother was murdered.
