She attended Albany High School and married Deen in 1965 after graduating.
He has two sons with her after they divorced in 1989. Her grandma taught her how to cook, and it eventually became her favorite activity. She used to make tens of thousands of pots of chicken and dumplings and felt safe in her kitchen since she enjoyed what she did.
