Grace Gealey was born in Butler, Pennsylvania, USA on July 26, 1984. She spent most of her childhood in the Cayman Islands. She is an American of European-Afro/Caymanian ancestry. Her parents were both deaf, and her mother’s name is Cheryl Anita McCoy, while her father’s name is unknown. Faith is her sister.
She enrolled at the University of South Florida after graduating from high school. She majored in Theater Arts there and obtained her Bachelor’s degree there as well. She subsequently attended the University of California, where she received her Master of Fine Arts in acting. She then began to appear in a couple of Off-Broadway rehearsals. She has appeared in plays such as The Misanthrope and Tartuffe.
